Learn more about Pemberton
In the 1800’s, the northern gold rush brought hopeful adventurers through the Valley, some of whom settled on the rich farm lands instead of continuing on.
Pemberton was named after Joseph Despard Pemberton, an accomplished surveyor for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the mid 1800’s. Ironically, the area was never visited by Joseph Pemberton.
Pemberton, like Whistler, was only accessible by rail until the 1960’s when the construction of Highway 99 opened up the Valley.
Visitors and residents enjoy the Village of Pemberton’s restaurants, museums, galleries and world class recreation. Pemberton is a great place for the outdoor enthusiast including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, backcountry adventuring and more.
The area’s Provincial Parks – Birkenhead Lake (10,439 hectares), Joffre Lakes (1,460 hectares), and Nairn Falls (170 hectares) – deliver unparalleled scenery and clean mountain air for campers, hikers and bikers.
