Whistler History

Past Meets Present

Whistler Mountain opened in 1966, followed by the opening of Blackcomb Mountain in 1980, which raised the community’s profile to a global level. Ten years later, the prestigious Snow Country Magazine recognised Whistler as the #1 Ski Resort in North America, an accolade that Whistler still receives today.

The construction of the world’s most extended unsupported lift in 2008, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, linked the summits of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

As the site of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Whistler’s stunning landscapes and facilities were broadcast to the world, drawing even more interest to this unparalleled mountain community, surrounded by exceptional ski terrain. There are more than a few reasons so many are drawn here, again and again.
