Pemberton

A short 20-minute drive north of Whistler brings you to the Village of Pemberton in the Pemberton Valley. Pemberton is a vibrant rural town surrounded by a farming community and is home to about 2,500 residents. Outdoor enthusiasts consider the pristine Valley to be the ‘Gateway to Backcountry Adventure’ for snowmobiling, backcountry skiing, hiking, rafting, gliding and camping.

First time home buyers and young families are attracted to Pemberton’s welcoming, small town atmosphere and the quality of the area’s amenities. The availability of prime vacant land for commercial and residential developments attracts investors.  Pemberton is Canada’s fastest growing rural community and a wise choice for real estate investments.

Looking Back

Pemberton Valley was first inhabited by the Interior Salish tribe who introduced potato farming into the fertile valley. Today the area is renown for its virus-free seed potatoes marketed throughout North America.

In the 1800’s, the northern gold rush brought hopeful adventurers through the Valley, some of whom settled on the rich farm lands instead of continuing on.

Pemberton was named after Joseph Despard Pemberton, an accomplished surveyor for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the mid 1800’s. Ironically, the area was never visited by Joseph Pemberton.

Pemberton, like Whistler, was only accessible by rail until the 1960’s when the construction of Highway 99 opened up the Valley.

Today

Visitors and residents enjoy the Village of Pemberton’s restaurants, museums, galleries, and year-round festivals and sports events. The annual Pemberton Music Festival offers over 100 celebrated musicians/bands and attracts around 175,000 fans over 4 days.

The area’s Provincial Parks – Birkenhead Lake (10,439 hectares), Joffre Lakes (1,460 hectares), and Nairn Falls (170 hectares) – deliver unparalleled scenery and clean mountain air for campers, hikers and bikers.
